Internet Access in Egypt
Internet Service ProvidersIn 2001, the Egyptian government undertook a major initiative to make dialup Internet access available to everyone. As such, Internet Service Providers were given exclusive (07xx-xxxx) dialup phone numbers all across the country. Users dial in the corresponding number to connect to a particular service provider, without the need for a username or a password. The access charges are simply billed to the phone number from which you are dialing, without the need to subscribe. There are hundreds of providers, each with a different access number, but we recommend 0777-0777. Look out for street advertisements with other equally good providers' phone numbers ADSLADSL service is available through various providers. Monthly fees are 95 Pounds (US$ 15) for a 128Kbps connection, and higher for faster connections. Leased lines are also available for businesses and individuals. Subscriptions for such services is through commercial ISPs. Here is a partial list of ISPs in Egypt. TEData CybercafésIf you are only visiting Egypt for a brief period and would like to access your account abroad, Internet cafés (cybercafés) are available everywhere. Check at your hotel, ask at major shopping malls and business centers, or look for street signs. The cost per hour is approximately 5 Egyptian Pounds (US$ 1.00), depending on the provider. Hint: You may be able to use the service for a fraction of an hour. Domain Name RegistrationIf you want to register your DNS (Domain Name System) under the .EG top-level domain, you need to contact EUN, the top-level domain authority in Egypt. The requirement for registration is that you be an "entity operating in Egypt". There is no registration fee. The contact e-mail address is (Domreg@frcu.eun.eg). You can always register your DNS within the .EG domain with the help of DNS service providers, for a fee.
